What MateOn does, and does not do
MateOn is a platform that helps members find each other and agree plans. Activities take place directly between members: MateOn does not organize, supervise or attend meetings, and it does not check the places members choose.
We support your safety with tools and rules: profile requirements, reporting and blocking, automated checks against abuse, internal trust and safety signals that point us to accounts that may need a closer look, and enforcement of our Community Guidelines. These measures are meant to make MateOn safer, but they are not a guarantee of anyone's identity, background, intentions, reliability or conduct.
What we do not check
- MateOn does not verify identities. Signing in with Google or confirming an email address is not identity verification.
- We do not run criminal or background checks.
- We do not check that a profile photo shows the person who uses it.
- Dates of birth are given by members themselves.
- We do not pre-screen profiles, activities or plans before they appear, and we do not monitor meetings.
Before you meet
- Take your time. Look at the person's profile and activities, and use the plan to agree what, when and where.
- Meet in a busy public place, especially the first time, and avoid meeting at someone's home or inviting them to yours.
- Tell a friend or relative who you are meeting, where and when, and check in with them afterwards.
- Arrange your own transport, so you can leave whenever you want.
- Keep personal details such as your home address, workplace and financial information to yourself until you feel comfortable.
- Never send money, gift cards or financial details to someone you met on MateOn, whatever the reason given.
During the activity
- Choose activities that match your skills, fitness and equipment, and check the weather, the route and the rules of the place.
- Keep your phone charged and with you.
- Stay in control: keep an eye on your drink and your belongings, and limit alcohol.
- Trust your instincts. You can end a meeting at any time, and you never owe anyone an explanation.
Places you choose
Members choose where to meet. MateOn does not own, operate, inspect or control parks, cafés, clubs, sports facilities or other places, and showing a place in MateOn is not a recommendation or a guarantee that it is safe, open or suitable. Check opening hours, access and conditions yourself.
If something goes wrong
- If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services, such as 112 in the European Union.
- If a crime was committed, report it to the police.
- Report the person in MateOn, and block them if you no longer want contact.
- Keep any evidence, such as screenshots, and write to [email protected] if you want to tell us more.
Reporting and blocking
You can report a profile, an activity or a match directly in MateOn and choose a reason, including child safety. The person is not told who reported them. Reports may be reviewed and appropriate action may be taken under our Terms, Community Guidelines and applicable law. Reports about child safety come first in our review queue. We do not promise that every report is reviewed immediately.
Blocking someone ends your match, cancels open plans between you and stops further contact in both directions. The other person is not notified.
Your part
When you sign up, you confirm that you understand that MateOn helps users connect but does not organize or supervise meetings between users, and that you are responsible for deciding whether, where and with whom you meet and for taking appropriate safety precautions. The Terms of Service and the Community Guidelines set out the rules in full.
