How does MateOn match people?
You pick activities you are open to, such as chess, cycling, running, walks, or coffee walks. MateOn shows you people nearby who want the same activity. When you both express interest, you match and can plan an activity together. MateOn connects you; whether and how you meet is up to the two of you.
How do I sign in?
Sign in at mateon.app/app with your email address and password, or with Google. If you forget your password, choose "Forgot password?" on the sign-in page and we will email you a link to set a new one; the link works for 30 minutes. With Google we never see your Google password; to use a different Google account, sign out first and pick the other account in Google's window.
Why does MateOn need my location?
Location is how we find people near you and show distance. If you allow it, MateOn reduces your position to an approximate area (about 1 km) before it reaches us, and that is all we store. You can hide your distance or city in settings, or turn off discovery entirely.
Can I control what others see?
Yes. In settings you can turn discovery on or off, hide your approximate distance, hide your city, hide your age, and limit yourself to online or in-person activities.
How do I report or block someone?
Open the person's profile, the activity, your match with them, or one of your plans, and choose report or block. Blocking ends the match, cancels open plans and stops further contact in both directions. The person is not told who reported or blocked them. Reports may be reviewed and appropriate action may be taken under our Terms, Community Guidelines and applicable law.
Does MateOn check who people are?
No. MateOn does not verify identities or run background checks, and signing in with Google or confirming an email address is not identity verification. A profile photo is required to post activities and make plans, but we do not check that it shows the person. Use the same care you would with anyone new, and read our Safety page.
What if I disagree with a moderation decision?
Write to [email protected] within six months of the decision, from the email address of your account, and tell us why. A person will look at the decision again and tell you the outcome.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings and choose Delete account. We sign you out on every device at once, remove you from discovery and delete your data.
What happens to my data when I delete my account?
We delete personal details such as your email, date of birth, photo, bio, city and location, along with your activities, matches and plans. We keep only an anonymous record of the account and any reports, for safety. The Account Deletion page and our Privacy Policy describe exactly what is kept and for how long.
How do I manage notifications?
In Settings you can choose which notifications you receive, such as likes, matches, plans, reminders and MateOn announcements. Notices about your account and its safety are always sent. On the web, new likes, matches and plans show up inside MateOn while it is open. Push notifications will arrive with the mobile apps, which are coming soon.
How do I change my profile or photo?
Open your profile and choose Edit profile. You can update your nickname, bio, photo, city, languages, and the activities you are open to at any time.
What activities does MateOn support?
Today you can match for 20 activities, including chess, cycling, running, walks and coffee walks, with preferences like skill level and pace. We plan to add more over time.
Is MateOn free?
Yes, MateOn is free at launch, and there are no ads. If that ever changes, we will make any pricing clear before it applies.
Any tips for meeting safely?
Meet in busy public places, tell a friend where you are going, arrange your own transport and trust your instincts. MateOn does not verify users, so use the same care you would meeting anyone new. Our Safety page has more advice.
Is there a MateOn app for iOS or Android?
Not yet. MateOn runs in your browser at mateon.app/app, on your phone and your computer, with nothing to download. Native iOS and Android apps are in development, and the same account will work in them.
