MateOnBe respectful
- Treat everyone with respect. No harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech or discrimination based on who someone is.
- No sexual harassment and no sexually explicit or violent content. MateOn is about activities, not adult content.
- Respect a no. If someone declines a plan, does not reply or blocks you, do not try to reach them another way.
- Do not spam, scam, advertise, or send unsolicited commercial offers.
Be real
- Give truthful information about yourself, including your age. You must be at least 18 years old.
- Use a recent photo that shows you. No impersonation, fake profiles, misleading photos or photos of other people.
- One person, one account.
- Do not post other people's personal information without their permission.
Post real activities
- Post activities you really intend to do, and describe them honestly: the activity, the level, the place and the time.
- Do not post deliberately misleading activities, or use an activity to promote a business, sell something or lure someone.
- Only propose activities that are legal, and respect the rules of the places you use.
- If your plans change, cancel or update the plan, so that nobody is left waiting.
Look after your safety
- MateOn connects people but does not organize or supervise meetings. You decide whether, where and with whom you meet, and you are responsible for taking appropriate safety precautions.
- Meet in busy public places, especially the first time, and tell someone you trust where you are going.
- Choose activities that match your skills, fitness and equipment, and leave if you feel uncomfortable.
- Never send money or share financial details with someone you met on MateOn.
- In an emergency, contact your local emergency services first. Our Safety page has more advice.
Protect the community
- Report any profile, photo, activity, plan or behavior that breaks these guidelines, using the report option in MateOn.
- Block anyone you do not want to interact with. A block works in both directions, and the other person is not notified.
- Do not misuse reporting: false or malicious reports break these guidelines too.
Prohibited content and behavior
This list is not exhaustive, but the following is never allowed on MateOn:
- illegal content of any kind,
- harassment, hate, threats or violence,
- sexual content, solicitation or exploitation,
- any content that involves or sexualizes minors, and any attempt to contact or meet a minor,
- impersonation, fraud, scams or phishing,
- spam, advertising or off-platform solicitation,
- sharing someone's private information without consent,
- promoting self-harm, dangerous challenges or illegal activity.
How we enforce these guidelines
We do not pre-screen everything posted on MateOn. We review content and accounts when they are reported to us, when we otherwise learn of a possible breach, when our automated safety signals suggest a review, or when the law requires it. We may also act on serious misconduct towards other members outside MateOn, such as at a meeting, when it is reported to us and we can reasonably assess it.
Depending on how serious a breach is and whether it is repeated, we may warn you, remove content, pause features such as posting activities or making plans, suspend your account or remove it permanently. Child sexual abuse and exploitation and threats of violence lead to permanent removal, and we report them to the authorities where the law requires it.
When we act against your content or your account, we tell you what we did and why. If you disagree, you can ask us to review the decision within six months by writing to [email protected], as described in the Terms of Service.
